The Island is situated at the far west end of the Grado lagoon and it is linked to the Island of Porto Buso by a short sea wall that you can walk along. This is a fishing island that was once used by the Romans as a seaport and warehouse for goods before arriving at Aquileia, then it was a theatre of war as it was on the boundary between Austria and Italy; it was also the outpost of Austrian soldiers who still feel strongly attached to this location even today.

Not so long ago (1950s – 1960s) the island was inhabited all year round, it had an elementary school that today hosts the six rooms of our Multi-building Hotel “Ai Ciodi”.
